A sticky situation..

Raw Honey has been my obsession for the past year or so. It is a great substitute for processed sweeteners, however not all honey is created equal. Commercial honey removes most of the pollen and it is pasteurized (heating process that kills microbes). Whereas raw honey is unheated, unprocessed, and unpasteurized which allows its nutrients remain in tact. Pollen is considered 'nutritionally complete' due to its high amino acid and antioxidant content. Raw honey is also believed to heal seasonal allergies due to increased exposure to the local pollen (So Cool!).

How to buy it...

The best way to buy raw honey is at the farmers market from local farmers. Raw honey is expensive so be prepared to ask questions such as: 'Where was this sourced?', or "Is this processed?'.

Many different types

The type of raw honey I love is Manuka Honey. This type of honey is great for wounds, sores, and acne. I typically use it as a mask for about 20 minutes, or you can sleep in it and wake up with super hydrated skin! Another great use for Manuka honey is for colds. You can either eat a spoonful of it or mix into tea for quick relief of a sore throat! Acacia Honey helps cleanse the liver and digestive tract. Buckwheat honey is usually dark and for that reason it is full of antioxidants. Neem honey has been used to treat high blood pressure and and diabetes. Honey is usually graded by color. With golden amber being the more 'high end' honey; which is why Manuka honey is pricey. Honey's flavor also varies depending on which flower that the nector was harvested (Huh!).

In conclusion

The benefits of raw honey have been recorded in early: Greek, Islamic, and Roman texts' and honeys healing benefits were referred to by philosophers and scientists' all the way back to ancient times of Aristotle. Raw honey is one of this planets miraculous super foods! I can vow that honey has changed my life tremendously and I would recommend it to anyone!
